Cronise Market Place

Family Owned & Operated Since 1928

Our History

Esbey CroniseCronise Market Place has been family-owned since it was originally founded in 1928 by Esbey E. Cronise as the E. E. Cronise Home Grown Mountain Fruit Stand.

Esbey built and owned several farms and farm lands throughout his lifetime.  At the time the fruit stand was built, the family included Esbey Cronise, his wife Annie Cronise and several of their children. They had a total of 13 children. The family built the market, grew, and sold their produce.Annie Cronise

The couple also had a 100-acre orchard on Boonsboro Mountain Road in Boonsboro. A packing shed was located near the current market and there was a family trucking company which transported surplus peaches and other produce to cities such as Baltimore, MD, and Washington D.C. For many years the family transported and sold produce at the original City Market in Hagerstown, MD.

The market was renamed Cronise Market Place in the Fall of 1996 and remains an open market on Old National Pike (Alt 40) on the south/east end of town in Boonsboro. The original structures remain with some enhancements. These structures still remain to remind us of how it was done long ago.

Currently it is the oldest business operating in Boonsboro, MD and still run by Bonnie and Cliff Pereschuk, family of Esbey and Annie.

Cronise Market specializes in fresh local produce, flowers, herbs, vegetable plants, lawn & garden décor, Amish baked goods, ciders, jellies, and local honey. We also sell fresh cut trees, wreaths, roping, swags, and citrus during the Christmas season.
